Trion has announced that Rift will be moving to a hybrid pay to play / free to play model.  While details aren't fully available yet free to play gamers won't have level caps and will be able to participate in all of the games areas and modes.  Subscribers appear to have added value tacked on.

Diablo III makers Blizzard, has unveiled a Diablo III starter edition.  Some players who have pre-orded the physical collectors edition may be able to download and patch the game tonight without having to go a store at midnight.  It seems some users have been granted access to the Starter Edition of the game although its uncelar exactly what the requirements are.  This may have been a gift for beta testers or you may just simply have to have had an existing Battle.Net account.  The easiest way to check is to log-in to your account and see if Diablo III Starter edition is available to you for download.

News has come out that Bioware's epic Star Wars: The Old Republic has lost 400k subs from the 1.7 million they started with.  While it is common for MMO's to launch, lose subscriptions and regain subscriptions after the game has become more developed, 400k is a large number which when compared to the 200 million (alleged) budget to create game.

Blizzard has announced more details about its Real Money Auction House today.  The first item of note is that it won't be available at launch but will be brought online about 1 week after the May 15th release date.  The gold based AC will be available from the get go however.  For those that are unaware of how auction houses work, it's fairly standard fare in MMO's, it's simply that if you have an item, say a magical item for a character of another class, you can put it up for auction for other players to bid on as opposed to selling to a vendor.  In most games the price you end up selling for is often much more than what the games vendors will offer.  It usually takes a little while for a game to find its "economy" which is the general accepted value for such items. Of course fairly common items usually don't sell or sell for very little and more rare items can start some great bidding wars.
